For Packing Paper grain direction is always parallel to the horizon, or left to right. This is always the case regardless of the size of the roll.

To determine weather a roll is grain long or grain short you must compare the width of a roll to the distance around the cylinder, or circumference.

In almost every case a Packing Paper roll will be Grain Long.

 

There are a few instances where this is not the case. If a rolls width is less than the total distance around the roll, it would then be considered Grain Short.
